On Thursday, December 4, 2003 at 16:31:21 a tribute was placed here to Honor JOHNSON (DUTCH) STEIDLER
I KNEW DUTCH MOST OF MY LIFE - WE PLAYED BASEBALL FROM MINOR LEAGUE TO TEENER LEAGUE, ALSO ON THE STREET. HE WAS A VERY EASY GOING FELLOW, ALWAYS HAD HIS MIND SET ON WHAT HE WAS GOING TO DO. I WAS IN NAM WHEN HE GOT KILLED, WHEN I GOT THE NEWS IT WAS LIKE LOSING A BROTHER. AT THIS TIME THE TOWN HAS NAMED THE LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD IN HIS HONOR AND AT THE ENTRY TO FIELD THERE IS A SMALL MONUMENT WITH HIS PICTURES ON IT. ONE IN HIS BASEBALL UNIFORM AND ONE IN HIS MILITATY. EVERY MEMORIAL DAY OUR VFW POST STOPS AND DOES A VFW MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE AT THE MONUMENT, STILL TO THIS DAY, AS CHAPLAIN OF THE POST IT IS HARD FOR ME TO DO IT. ESPECIALLY WITH HIS DAD AND BROTHER STANDING THERE. by robert pettit from gibbstown.n.j. E-mail address: bobandhelen@snip.net |

On this the eve before Veterans Day, would like to say THANK YOU to all who have stood their "Watch" so all may enjoy the freedoms we have today. It is you and all our fellow Veterans that know, Freedom is never Free, That All Gave Some and far to Many Gave All. We reserve Memorial Day as the Day to Honor those who have gone to their "Post Everlasting", but Veterans Day is the time to Honor All Veterans, those who still walk among us, as well as those who have gone on their "Last Patrol". Let us not forget to Honor those who serve today, for they are our fellow Veterans of tomorrow. As they pass in Harm's Way during these troubled times, may we pray that God will keep them safe. Again THANK YOU my fellow Veterans, it has been an Honor to have served with you. Fair Winds and Following Seas to All Jake "Hate war but love the American warrior" by Dan Jacobs from Cape Cod |

I served in the Vietnam War with the illustrious 1st Cavalry Division(Oct 66-Oct 67). Hollywood has made a movie of this unit("We Were Soldiers") I came home from the war feeling empty & hurting for those who would never return. I began soul-searching & in 1973, I had a genuine encounter with God that changed my life. I found Jesus Christ as my Savior! He healed my heart & gave me peace. Jesus died on the Cross for each one of us to give us life. His life!
